OUR FAMOUS KAY KIB!

OCEAN TOURS is very passionate about Deep Sea Fishing. It's a love that was born long ago, as the owner's father Chartered Fishing trips in Cancun for many years. Cozumel is one of the best locations for Sportsfishing in the Caribbean, as the many species of Billfish come right down the Channel of Cozumel (the protected waterway between Cozumel and the Yucatan Peninsula) every year during the Billfish run from late February to early September, peaking between April and June. Sailfish, Blue Marlin, White Marlin as well as the tasty Mahi Mahi all make their yearly run right on our front door. Please be advised that OCEAN TOURS has a strict catch and release policy for Billfish, all efforts will be made to ensure that Blue Marlin, White Marlin and Sailfish are returned to the water alive after a few pictures. Cozumel is also in a privileged position as the reef systems around the island, as well as the shallow mangrove bays, provide a perfect breeding ground for Cozumel's year-round fishing species: Black & Yellow Fin Tuna, Grouper, Red Snapper, Barracuda, Wahoo, Rainbow Runners, several species of Shark, and others. So anytime of the year you are here, you have good chances of getting some action, especially aboard OCEAN TOURS' pride & joy KAY KIB. The KAY KIB (Mayan for Sailfish) is Ocean Tours' main fishing vessel, although we own 2 other fishing boats that we use when the Kay Kib is booked. She's a 36' Custom-Built boat, finished and put in the water in May 2002. This boat was hand built by the owner José de la Fuente here in Cozumel, with help from Captain Jorge Pacheco and 1st Mate Ruben. For 6 long months they labored over the design and construction, spending the final month hand-finishing every custom detail. The KAY KIB is a very comfortable, functional and clean vessel, equipped with some of the best tackle made for deep sea fishing: Penn International "Gold Series", plus a large collection of teasers, lures, lines, and even a couple of light tackle reels & rods for when the youngsters come along. It has outriggers and downrigger, a fighting chair plus a couple of stand-up rigs, GPS, fish finder, AM/FM Stereo/CD, VHF Radio + back-up/long range private repeater, restroom and sink w/mirror, polarized & shaded padded sofa seating area, lunch tables, storage area, built-in coolers, refrigerator/freezer, fish tank, fresh water shower, retractable step-up ladder to/from water, and comfortable seating for guests on the top deck with the Captain, for those that just love to see them coming. She is by far one of the newest, and best equipped fishing boats in Cozumel. And to top it all off, the crew of the Kay Kib is one of the most experienced, hardest working and friendliest in the business here. The Captain and 1st Mate grew up fishing these waters, and are not only very experienced and dedicated fishermen, they are also well-spoken, wonderful hosts who will take great care of you in a very professional manner, and work hard the entire Charter to get you into the action. For our fishing trips we will pick you up at your hotel if it has a pier, or at the nearest available pier. If you have your own transportation, you may choose to board the boat at the North Harbor "Puerto de Abrigo".

With a Mexican heart and a Caribbean soul, Cozumel is a paradise where tradition, flavor and joy come together.

Famous all over the world for its coral reefs, there are plenty of water sports such as diving, deep-sea fishing, snorkeling, kayaking and more. With its beautiful beaches and exotic locale, Cozumel is an ideal destination where honeymooners can enjoy colorful and breathtaking sunsets, moonlit walks on secluded beaches, swim through crystal clear blue waters and romantic candlelight dinners.

The swim is an in-water start in the sea swim and start and finishes at CHANKANAAB park beach. Water temperature for the month of September in Cozumel is likely to be around 26°C, therefore wetsuits will not be permitted on the one lap rectangular shaped course.

The bike course starts and finishes at the CHANKANAAB park, using the Cozumel island main road. The three loop course is flat, paved in good conditions and with a few sharp corners, and will be totally closed to vehicle traffic. We recommend that you take two water bottles during this segment of the race.

The marathon course is three laps, starting at the CHANKANAAB park towards Cozumel downtown. Just as on the bike, the roads will be closed to vehicle traffic. You will find aid stations every other km with Gatorade, water, ice, PowerBar (bars and gel), Vaseline, Coke and medical assistance.
